Book Overview

Cute, independent, and full of attitude, Gwen, Daphne, and Rita are three girls doing what they have to do to survive in big bad Freak City. From expressing themselves through graffiti or cutting loose on the dance floor, the party is always raging- that is, until the Brotherhood of the Cracker catches wind of the good time and decides to crack down. The Brotherhood is an evil alliance that controls the world's power structure from behind the scenes, and they don't like the Grrls hoarding in on their business. Before they know it, the Grrls are being hunted by assassins and are on the run for their lives. From the comic shop to homogenized suburbs and the ivory towers of corporate greed, Grrl Scouts is an action-packed, hip hop comics adventure that attacks society with both fists and never stops punching.

i can't write girls like this

this book would make me sick if it wasn't so dang good. i don't understand how he is able to write female characters so well. oh well, read it.

Amazing artwork!

This is one of my all-time favorite comics. The story is so-so, but it doesn't matter. The art is amazing and the fact that the protagonists are a bunch of ... hip hop girls dealing ... in the city make up for it. I just wish he'd do a sequel. Highly recommended!

Good style, Not so good writing

I love this book. I bought it after seeing Jim Mahfood's work in the "Clerks" comic, and this did not disappoint. If you like comics, or aspire to write them, this is a good buy. The story lags in some parts, mainly in some of the dialogue (it seems like he's occasionally trying too hard to make drug references or use slang), but that isn't why I bought the book, nor is it the reason why I love the book. The style is awesome! I found myself getting very into the action of the book, just because of how it was all presented. The story is pretty cheesy, but BUY THIS BOOK. I like the pretty pictures.

Bad Girls Are SOOOO Good!

Three childhood friends grow up together into Intelligent, sexually-liberated street 'thugs that run a small-time drug-dealing racket and are targeted by an evil corporate mob-style monopoly that believes they are taking away "business." Punky fashion, witty dialogue, a campy comedic plot, dynamic characters and awesome artwork. What more could you ask for in a comic?
