Gripping Stories

Enter the wildly original mind of Mark Sbani through four of his most riveting plays.

Gripping Stories is uproarious from front to back. It gives readers a street-lit tour of Denver, Colorado. From the tearoom of the Brown Palace Hotel to strange blind-alleys off Colfax Avenue. It's never a straight line. Scenic detours. Ups and downs. Twists and turnabouts. Pay the fare and take a ride on a sight-seeing bus, driven by the steady-handed Mark Sbani.

FEATURING
Ghost of Union Station
A Halloween ghost story set in the basement of Denver's Union Station. Said Sbani: "I was at Union Station with my friend and his new girlfriend, and they were making out the whole time. I felt like a third wheel and wanted to give them some privacy (in Union Station, in the lobby). I guess I don't like watching people kiss. Anyway, I wandered downstairs. Stepped over a chain-link fence, dangling between two walls. Found myself in the basement. I saw shadowy figures and heard voices cackling. Sounded like drunkards arguing. I walked upstairs and asked the security guard, ""Who's in the basement?"" He told me, ""Nobody. Nobody goes down there. The basement's restricted. It's been closed for fifty years. That's the wrong side of the fence."" Wasn't my imagination - I heard something in the darkness. Mole people. Gotta be mole people."
