Slow build up for a descent into madness

It took a while for the horror aspects of the book to come out to play, but I suppose it was to lull you into a false sense of security. Once the ball got rolling, it was impossible to put down. The author was excellent in describing scenes that made me squirm in my seat. The ending had me conflicted, yet that didn’t deter my overall enjoyment of the book.
