Greedy Teenager

"Greedy Teenager" follows Marcus Whitfield, a 14-year-old who discovers he has a knack for reselling limited-edition sneakers online. A single lucrative flip turns into an escalating hustle: he recruits friends as line-standers but shortchanges them, borrows his little sister Nadia's savings without really asking, and reinvests everything into a trading-card speculation deal that collapses. To cover the growing hole, he takes on the treasurer role for his school's Spring Carnival fundraiser and starts "borrowing" from the cash box, telling himself he'll replace it before anyone notices. A scam that wipes out nearly a thousand dollars pushes him deeper in, and eventually the fundraiser shortfall is discovered in front of the whole planning committee - a scene that costs him his best friend Deshawn's trust, his sister's faith in him, and lands his parents and the principal in the loop.

The back half of the book is about repair: a hardware-store conversation with his grandfather about the difference between wanting and needing; slow, unglamorous community service redoing the carnival; honest apologies instead of excuses; and a final carnival that becomes the school's most successful yet, partly because Marcus proposes directing some of the surplus to a scholarship fund instead of keeping the win for himself. It ends about six months later, with Marcus's friendships mostly mended, a "giving" column added to his budget, and the understanding that the pull toward "more" doesn't disappear - he's just gotten better at noticing it before it costs him something real.

The book closes with a "Questions to Think About" section for discussion, and a short "About This Story" note framing greed as an ordinary, common temptation rather than a moral flaw unique to Marcus.
