The story follows the life of Lila, an only child who is blessed with loving and gentle parents. She is proud of her family's harmony and tired of seeing her friends' parents fight, which makes her invite her best friend Jake to spend a weekend at her house. During the visit, Giles, Lila's father, surprises Jake by showing interest in his family. Lila, fearing for Jake's privacy, intervenes and saves the day. However, Jake has deeper feelings for Lila, which she does not reciprocate at first.After a failed attempt to win Lila's heart, Jake decides to cast a spell on Lila and her family to seek revenge. Lila falls in love with Ethan, a talented circus acrobat, and becomes pregnant with his child, but he disappears without a trace. She moves to a different city to keep everything from her parents and relies on Jake to be the father of the child. It is later revealed that Jake is gay, which disgusts Lila, and she discovers that his lover is someone she knows.Unfortunately, the story does not mention the identity of Jake's lover, leaving the reader with a cliffhanger.Lila, an only child who has the good fortune to have kind and loving parents, is the focus of the story. She invites her best friend Jake to spend a weekend at her house since she is happy with her family's harmony and is sick of witnessing her friends' parents argue. Lila's father Giles surprised Jake during the visit by expressing interest in his family. Jake is saved by Lila, who steps in out of concern for Jake's privacy. Although Lila first rejects him, Jake has deeper affections for her.Jake makes the decision to cast a spell on Lila and her family in an effort to get retribution after his unsuccessful attempt to win Lila's heart. Ethan is a gifted circus acrobat that Lila falls in love with and conceives with; nevertheless, he vanishes without a trace. In order to hide everything from her parents, she relocates to another city and counts on Jake to be the child's father. Jake's homosexuality is later made known, which disgusts Lila. She also learns that Jake's boyfriend is someone she knows. The reader is left on a cliffhanger because the identity of Jake's lover is not revealed in the novel.
