Good Romance Novel

Seamus Lee was too busy working to pay much attention to his four children. But now, after his wife's accidental death, he is facing a couple of truths. He had fallen out of love with his late wife and he is a bad father. When he wins three free months at a mountain school he thinks this will be a good chance to bring his family closer together. He is not looking for another relationship, but he finds himself attracted to instructor Rory Gorenzi. The last thing Rory herself is looking for is a relationship - she's failed in several other jobs and is trying to prove to her father, who owns the school, that she can succeed this time. But Seamus and Rory grow closer together against all odds. "Good with Children" is a nice enjoyable romance novel. I love the setting of a mountain school in Colorado and loved reading about the various activities there. Seamus is a well written and developed character, struggling to help his children deal with their mother's death, while realizing he had stopped loving her and dealing with his anger over her accidental death which was her own fault. His realizing that he has not been a great father but able to admit that and try to change is well done. Rory is also a well-written character - outspoken and feisty, athletic, a bit daring (she is a fire dancer), feeling a bit like a failure because she never graduated from college and hasn't been able to hold a job for a long period of time. Her trying to build a relationship with her father and prove herself to him is well done and very believable. Of Seamus's four children, Lauren, the oldest, is the best written. She's a prickly teenager, not only going through the usual adolescent growing pains and wanting to grow up too fast, but still mourning the loss of her mother, and not wanting her father to start another relationship. The romance between Seamus and Rory is nicely done as both struggle not only with fear of the relationship but what the consequences would be (Rory getting involved with a client; Rory and Seamus don't live that close to each other; Seamus's children are still dealing with the loss of their mother). Despite some serious issues, there is a nice gentle humor throughout the book, especially involving the outspoken Rory (early in the book the descriptions of her various jobs and why she lost them is hilarious). Readers looking for some good sex scenes will be disappointed as all the action happens off the pages of the book. "Good with Children" is an enjoyable romance novel.

Fans of a deep character driven contemporary will appreciate Margot Early's fine tale.

Widower graphic artist Seamus Lee will do anything to help his four children move past the accidental death of their mother from a gun shot wound. Thus he takes his still grieving offspring to the Sultan Mountain School in Colorado for three months of survival skills training, where he hopes the outdoors will help them forget their pain. The prime instructor of the Lee brood is Rory Gorenzi, daughter of the owner. She and Seamus are attracted to one another from the first meeting, but raising his family comes before any other relationships. Still when her father suffers a heart attack, Seamus remains at Rory's side to help her and her dad get through the crisis. GOOD WITH CHILDREN is a well written family drama starring the five Lees all in different ways and phases grieving the loss of the matriarch due to a stunning self inflicted accident, which makes the loss even more difficult to cope with. Although a romantic relationship between Rory and Seamus never comes across as right at least at this time even if this is a SuperRomance, the struggles to move on and Rory's love for the Lees and her empathy and concern feel genuine. Fans of a deep character driven contemporary will appreciate Margot Early's fine tale. Harriet Klausner
