Enjoyable

There was nothing to dislike about this book and everything to like. Nancy Tesler has fast become one of my favorite authors. Her characters are close to real life in how they interact with each other. The relationship between the heroine and her cop boyfriend is a grownup relationship where there are fights, but then both take the time to see the other side and discuss the problems. The mystery is good in that in all of her books I have not been able to 100% figure out who was responsible until it was revealed in the end. I put Nancy Tesler up there with Kathleen Taylor and Susan Rogers Cooper two other favorite authors of mine.

An omlette or a souffle?

"Golden Eggs and Other Deadly Things" is a pleasant afternoon's diversion. Carrie, the heroine/sleuth is amusing: she's a frazzled relaxation therapist whose own deep-breathing and counting-backwards techniques don't always work for her--and no wonder! Carrie has almost every predictable ingredient of the modern female detective novel going for her, all in one book. Count the ingredients: policeman boyfriend; obnoxious ex-husband; meddling mother-in-law; teenaged children. Add to that some other familiar ingredients found in every mystery-story kitchen--faithful friend, mistaken identity, lots of corpses, nicotine poison and a missing handgun. Whew! Lots to stir into 250 pages! But the result is entertaining, if predictable. A little frothy, though--I'll vote for a souffle.

However, to Claire,s chagrin, Eve is arrested for leaving a homicide scene and for refusing to answer the police,s questions on why she was even there. Claire begins her own inquiries, which lead her to wonder if the woman her father married is the killer.GOLDEN EGGS AND OTHER DEADLY THINGS is a delightful amateur sleuth tale that will send readers searching for the previous novels in the series. Carrie is an adorable heroine whose frenzied hysterical lifestyle is something may fans will understand first hand. The identity of the killer is a surprise, as other suspects appear more viable. The heart and soul of this book lies in the protagonist and her relationships with her loved ones. The lengths she will go to in order to keep them safe are a sight to behold. Nancy Tesler has written an appealing, humorous and well crafted mystery that should prove to be her golden egg amidst contented sub-genre fans.Harriet Klausner
