"Remarkably fresh and vigorous . . . an impressive achievement."-- The New York Times Book Review Set amid the arid landscape and stony resentments of Greece in the aftermath of its bloody civil war,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This novel is comprised of lovely symbolic episodes of a young Greek girl's life with her cruel, military father and her weak, submissive mother. The story deals with her building skills to deal with the heartrending treatment disbursed to her by her father - - not letting him know how deeply she feels his callous and inhuman treatment. She learns about life through animals, friendship, sexual experience and family. This is a beautifully written and extraordinarily insightful book.
I loved this book!

The minute I finished it I hopped in the car and drove like wild to the nearest bookstore hoping they would have the sequel FEAR...they didn't. But I've ordered it and I can hardly wait to continue the journey! Definitely worth reading, especially if you're of Greek descent.
