I read this book and took Dr. Stanger's last course on Healing at Asbury Theological Seminary in the early 1980's. His book presents a biblical and historical view of a balanced ministry of healing. I think his ministry of healing was one of Asbury's best kept secrets because his focus was on ministry instead of showmanship and publicity. I am so glad to see this book still in print almost three decades after it was first published! The renewed focus upon the church's ministry of healing goes all the way back to the Wesleyan Revival in England and can be found in the American Holiness Revival which pre-dated the Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements. I would particularly encourage United Methodist clergy to read it before using the Healing Ritual in the Book of Worship which has become the most favorite ritual. Dr. Stanger's book planted a seed toward my future Doctor of Ministry dissertation concerning the healing of a local congregation.
