In life we face many battles and oppositions, we make mistakes, hurt people and we ourselves become hurt. We tend to suppress these events and often decide in our minds that we won't discuss them or we would rather go about life as if they never happened. These events become obsolete in our minds because they have caused shame, fear, bitterness and unforgiveness towards ourselves or others. It could be a plethora of things we have faced, from abandonment to molestation, to teenage pregnancy and the list goes on.
