Book Overview

If you were a wild raccoon,

You'd hunt at night by the light of the moon.

You'd catch some crawdads where they crawl,

And gobble them up -- shells and all!

From a hungry crocodile's attempt at a meal of wild ducklings, to a shark cruising for schools of fish, to a whale wrestling a wild giant squid; to a panda eating rare bamboo...... While some animals become food -- and some get away, readers will delight in seeing what and how different animals eat.

That's the way we all survive

We have to eat to stay alive.

We eat the food we have, and then --

We have to hunt for food again!

Terrific book and song

Both my [...] daughter and 7 year old son thoroughly enjoy this book and CD. Great illustrations, a catchy tune, and a nice little biology lesson that everyone can understand. Tough to beat.

The critters, `n creatures illustrations, poetry and music in ths book make it great fun!

All the creatures of the earth need to eat, even the tiniest of them you can't even see, to the big ones like the great whale. Crunch, crunch, munch, munch and gobble, gobble, gobble . . . yes, come to think of it, even turkeys have to eat! Some kids like to eat and some kids are picky eaters, but no matter what kind you are you're going to love to read and listen to Jim Arnosky sing about how some of the creatures of the world eat their food. "If a great whale you could be, you'd dive to the bottom of the deep blue sea. You'd pick a fight with the biggest kid . . . And gobble you up a giant squid! Yes, you would. Yes, you would. You'd eat that squid up if you could. Yes, you would. Yes you would. You'd gobble it up and it'd taste good!" The CD with the book perfectly compliments the text. It is a simple, folksy rendition of the text with Arnosky strumming on his guitar and singing. Many young children love to sing along as they learn to read and the addition of CDs to books makes that a welcome addition. The critters, `n creatures illustrations, poetry and music are great fun. Get ready to tap your toes with the wild raccoon, the crocodile, the great white shark, the great whale and the panda bear!

Can't get enough of this book!

I'm a children's librarian and ever since I discovered this book I've been doing a lot of story hours about eating! The kids love it, it's easy enough to have them all singing along by the second reading -- and they always ask me to read it "AGAIN". And, they're learning something too. It's a winner.

A fun, zany and easy-reading rollicking rhyme

GOBBLE IT UP! A FUN SONG ABOUT EATING! tells of suppertime in the wild, when hungry animals engage in eating. A music CD accompanies a factual picture book song, illustrating consumption in a fun, zany and easy-reading rollicking rhyme.

We gobble food to stay alive!

Ever since my almost 4 year-old and I got hooked on picture books with accompanying audio CDs [especially the excellent series of books with music and narration by John Lithgow], we've been looking out for similar books by other authors. Jim Arnosky's "Gobble It Up! A Fun Song about Eating!" is a colorful picture book with an accompanying audio CD that has Jim singing to the text on his guitar. The lyrics and tune are catchy and easy to follow. After a couple of repeated play, both of us were singing and humming along. It's not one of those loud songs but rather soothing music [in fact we listened to it right before bedtime]. Besides being a picture book of animals eating food in their habitat [example shark eating little fishes in the ocean, panda chewing bamboo shoots in the wild], it also teaches young ones about the necessity to consume food to live, and that it's not just people who need to do this, but all living creatures. All in all, a fun and educational picture book that will delight preschoolers and up.
