"You could be as strong as Samson and smart as Solomon and you won't be able to get yourself out of

This may be a bit of an "oldie" ,but it is still a "goodie". It was published in January 1992 ,so may be a little hard to find, but worth looking for. I can't tell you anything about the author, whether it is a pen name,or whether he has written anything else.It is the first novel by him that I have come across.Inside ,it shows being copyrite by Robert Vaughan. The publisher is Pocket Books. They give credit for the cover art to Tim Tanner. That is good,as I enjoy the artwork and glad to see who the artist was--much appreciated. It is a great scene with excellent use of color. Now to the novel itself. It is both a Civil War story and a Western at the same time. Two brothers from Missouri fight for opposite sides in the war.The story starts a few days before the surrender of the Confederacy, when one of the brothers lead a group of Confederates to capture a huge shipment of gold ,that the Union Army has captured, and is moving it north. When they stop the shipment,to the great surprise Buck, the Confederate Officer, discovers that it is his brother Lance, who is in charge of the Union Army shipment. This proves very interesting ,particularly since the war ends a couple of days later. The gold disappears ,ending up in a 2 year hunt for the gold and the one who has it.The hunt continues all the way to Texas, and a great story entails. The story is interesting, with a lot of Civil War connections and personalities.Alliances are quite different during the war in areas like Missouri and Texas, from what we are used to in the South and East. The story is well constructed, with well developed characters, lots of great action and makes for a great read. Wherther you like Civil War yarns,Old West stories,or a combination of both;you're sure to like this one.
