Writers write to express their emotions. I wrote Glimpse Within while grappling with the largest sense of loss I've experienced in my life: the death of my father. I write in the first person and refer to that person as "Danielle". The purpose of Glimpse Within is to show the grieving process within a mind plagued by PTSD. I use my own grief as the raw energy to fuel the story. With PTSD reality and fiction blur until the suffer cannot tell the difference, therefore within Glimpse Within reality and fiction blur until the reader cannot tell the difference. The point of Glimpse Within is to allow the reader to feel the disorientation of PTSD and grief. My educational and vocational background is in psychology and education. I learned many things from my clients and students especially their fears and hopes. They fear they are alone in their suffering and they hope someone will understand that with which they struggle to put into words. Glimpse Within: I Am Not Alone is for them. Until my father died, I could only understand to a degree what sorrow is so I use my grief and my computer to craft a book that is PTSD. I love my family and they are not characters in a book. Losing my father hurts everyday. I now have deeper compassion and understanding for those who have confided in me over the years. Before my father's death, I thought I understood their world of confusion, but now I know I only had the briefest glimpse within the pain that others have shared with me.
