Giant cell arteritis is a plurifocal inflammatory panarteritis of the elderly, predominantly in large and medium-sized vessels. Its clinical picture is polymorphous. It remains a severe disease due to its ocular, neurological and vascular complications. It must be evoked in any elderly subject complaining of headaches with the presence of ainflammatory syndrome. Corticosteroid therapy remains the reference treatment and should be started as soon as possible. Clinical trials have shown that a number of targeted agents have superior clinical efficacy and steroid-sparing effects.
