A MUST HAVE for Paranomal Investigators

As a paranormal investigator and researcher, I found Ghosthunting Virginia to be a very enjoyable read, not just another ghost story. Author Michael J. Varhola provided the perfect balance between the histories and legends reported at each of the featured locations along with his own experiences and accounts while there. What makes this book great? First, it's an ideal paranormal travel guide. As paranormal investigators, we all want to get out to the places we have heard about, but finding the time to do the work to research their histories, legends and claims of paranormal activity is difficult when you have full time job(s). Michael's done all that work for you, leaving you to plan your next adventure. I met Michael at Gabriel's Inn in Ijamesville, MD,where he was actually doing research on his next book in the series, Ghosthunting Maryland. At some point it struck me that this book was much like one of the many of the fine French dinners I have enjoyed at Gabriel's Inn. It was well thought out, all the ingredients fresh, perfectly balanced, artfully presented; and left you looking forward to the next chapter! See you out there Ghosthunting Virginia!

A Wonderful Book

I was pleased to be able to meet Mr. Varhola at a recent book signing. I just love Ghosthunting Virginia. In particular I loved the chapter on the Williamsburg area. As a young child my family visted that area and it was neat to find out about some of the sighting there. My husband and I are always looking for new books on ghost from anywhere in the United States. This was a great book in our collection. Thank you for writing this book! Look forward to many more by you.

As enjoyable for armchair travelers to read as it is a useful tour destination guide for occult love

Ghosthunting Virginia explores thirty legendary haunted sites in the state of Virginia, including the District of Columbia. From the Poe Museum, which is located near where Edgar Allen Poe lived and worked and is reputedly haunted by ghosts, to Ford's Theatre, subject to strange occurrences ever since President Lincoln was assassinated there, to cemeteries, battlefields, and much more, Ghosthunting Virginia is as enjoyable for armchair travelers to read as it is a useful tour destination guide for occult lovers. A scattering of black-and-white photographs illustrate this user-friendly compendium.

I gave this book an extra point because

it was written by an author who actually has writing ability and if the book contained any typos, I didn't notice them. When it comes to too many ghost books I've read lately, that hasn't been the case. That being said, as one who lives in northern VA myself, I was disappointed that the author broke no new ground whatsoever. And Bunny Man bridge? That old Indian chief chestnut from Occoquan?? Come ON. There are plenty of old houses and buildings in this area - why do so many authors keep going back to the SAME places? I buy ghost books to read about personally investigated accounts of ghosts. This book covered the "personally investigated" part well enough but the actual accounts part was lacking. I mean, I couldn't understand why his wife ever felt the need to stay in the car - in broad daylight no less. Strange "feelings" do not a decent ghost account make. I'll buy his next book since I've also lived in MD, but I hope it's a bit more compelling than this one. Still, this is far from the worst ghost book I've read and it's a pleasant enough diversion for ghost book fans so if you are interested in ghost books, I think it's worth reading.
