On a rainy November evening, sixteen-year-old Noah Archer waits at a bus stop. Out of the mist a beautiful and unusual girl dressed in hippie style clothes, emerges to join him. She tells him she's going to the grand opening of the new mall. "Come with me," she invites. "It's a love-in." Intrigued, Noah agrees. They arrive at a new, brightly lit, noisy mall. After dancing with a crowd of longhaired kids also dressed in 1960s attire, they browse the shops. The night ends with a kiss and a promise, "I'll see you again." When Noah opens his eyes, the girl has disappeared. He searches the shops and crowded aisles, but somehow, through a terrifying transition, finds himself outside in the parking lot of the decrepit mall that closed down in his town decades ago. He can't explain what happened to him and questions his own sanity. As weeks go by, the memory of what he calls the "ghost mall," fades and he pushes the events of that night to the back of his mind--until the same unforgettable girl shows up as a new student at his high school.
