Getting Old is Criminal

I love Gladdy and her four close friends. I wish the author could write faster. I need more of them to read. These are stories about people who are just a little older than I am (I'm 74). Of course, I've never found a body anywhere and I doubt that I could possibly solve the crime if I did. I prefer these stories written about women written by women. Although they have some violence in them(such as people getting murdered) they weave a tale for us without a bunch of gore. Those of us who are old enough know the gore is there, but we really don't want that as part of the story. I'd rather use my imagination about it. Or not. I have read all five stories in the series so far. I think when someone writes more than one story about the same characters, it is more fun reading the books in the order in which they were written.

Getting old is so much fun

I've just finished reading this book, and I like it just as much I liked the other books in this series. The characters are funny, witty, hilarious and lovable. The reason I like this series mostly because other than being a mystery, it also deals with the sad side of aging, losing loved ones, illness etc. A great book for an lazy evening.

Exciting life in a retirement community

Our heroine is 75, but you had better forget all your preconceptions about old age. Glady Gold and her friends solve serious mysteries. As those of us who are older recognize, elderly ladies can be completely unnoticed. This is an ideal arrangement if they go into the detective business. My intention is to read the entire series.

this one is better than the rest

This installment into Gladdys life is better than the others. With this one we see the joys and woes of the retirement community even more and of course there are some really funny parts...... sophie taking her "glaucoma" meds... hilarious. The end of the book has a teaser to the new 2008 installment and it promises to solve the crime of Gaddy's husband Jack's murder. Can't wait.

Excellent!

I really enjoyed "Getting Old is Criminal". All of Gladdy Gold's friends and neighbors are back in this book, though the story focuses on a mystery off-site from Lanai Gardens so they aren't as much a part of the story except for "the girls" who are part of Gladdy's private investigations firm. Gladdy and her "girls" are hired to find out if a wealthy elderly woman living in a luxurious retirement hotel died of natural causes or was murdered and Gladdy and Evvie go under cover in the lap of luxury at a Palm Beach retirement home. This story is a little darker, less slapstick than the previous books. I'd definitely recommend it, but if you're just starting the series begin at the beginning and not with this one.
