great book

I love this book and have read them all. I plan on reading anymore this author writes. I enjoyed this book immensly.

Friendship Adventure Romance---the Whole Schmeer

I liked the first four novels in the Gladdy Gold series by Rita Lakin. This fifth adventure, Getting Old Is a Disaster, is even more exciting. You have to read it. Ms. Lakin is a smooth mystery writer--main plot and subplots so beautifully blended into a satisfying read. Sobering subject matters (Alzheimer's toll; Holocaust survivor's nightmares) plus crime-solving and friendship and romance, and even goofiness. Like being with a good friend, I didn't want the story to end. Oh, but what an ending!

STILL FUNNY AND INTERESTING

I have enjoyed all these books and have shared them with friends, if only getting older could be so much fun and interesting

Missing this book would be a Disaster for Lakin fans!

This fifth entry into the series is fantastic. Lots of humor, as usual, but with a really deeper theme that gives one pause for thought. How fun to go along for the ride as Gladdy Gold and her merry band of senior sleuths deal with her new live-in relationship with boyfriend Jack, cope with the aftermath of a hurricaine and chase down an over 50 year old murder...all with their usual style, wit and wisdom. You won't want to miss this one- that in itself would be a Goldy's Fan Disaster!

spunky senior citizens sleuths

It is finally official, Gladdy and Jack are a couple. Both live in the Lanai Gardens condominium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she and her four friends run a private detective business and he is a former detective who enjoys his retirement. Both want to consummate their love, but each time they try, a crisis surfaces; somebody needs her or a case arises. Jack rents a room in the Keys as a getaway, but alas they are interrupted again this time by a hurricane They return home as Jack's building has collapsed. Meanwhile Gladdy and her crew are trying to locate a bank robber who has taunted them. He even tells them which bank he will rob; when it occurs as described Gladdy and her intrepid geriatric sleuths set up a plan to catch a thief. A skeleton is found in the subbasement of Jack's demolished building; the builder Stanley Heyer asks Gladdy to identify the body. This fifty year old cold case has roots in Nazi Germany but pose modern day danger to the detectives. In her fifth mystery, Gladdy and her peers prove there is plenty of life in septuagenarians as they team is up to the challenge of the bank robber and a cold killer. There are the two mysteries in this latest "Getting Old" tale with both complex and not easy to determine who the culprits are. However, as always in Rita Lakin's homage to the elderly, it is the cast especially Gladdy who make for a spunky sensational senior citizens sleuthing series. Harriet Klausner
