Germaine 18 and Jean 19 both from Bordeaux got involved as early as 1940 in the struggle against Nazi occupation and the Vichy state. After underground life, arrests, years in prison and concentration camps they were lucky enough to experience the spring of 1945 and the promise of happier days with the National Council of the Resistance. Nevertheless returning to freedom and civilized life after five years of ordeals was not easy for these survivors of Nazi atrocities. Resilience was a long process.
