This is the first of four volumes on the Book of Genesis (" the book of beginnings "). Genesis lays the foundation of history. It gives mankind the critical information needed to know about origins. It is "the seed plot" of the Bible because "all forests" of Scripture find their beginning as "seedlings" in it. It presents the beginning of everything except God Himself, Who is eternal. It gives us the origin of the universe, of order and complexity, of the atmosphere and hydrosphere, of life, of man, woman, marriage, evil, the origin of God's plan of salvation, of government, languages, nations, people groups, and the origin of the nation of Israel. Man's belief about origins affects his belief about the purpose for his existence and his final destiny. The future is bound-up in the past. If one holds to a naturalistic, evolutionary concept of origins, inevitably he will have a naturalistic, secular-humanistic view regarding the future. On the other hand, if one believes the revelation of the first book of Scripture regarding the creation of all things by an omnipotent, personal, loving God, he will be far better equipped to comprehend God's purpose for man and history revealed in the rest of Scripture. He will also know the future!
