A new epidemic is gripping the world. You can see it in San Antonio and London, in Beijing and Tashkent: Far too many kids are far too fat, putting them on track to becoming the first generation in... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I bought this book for two reasons: 1) In my social science class I teach a unit about childhood obesity and needed up-to-date info and 2) I am the mother of an obese child (now 13), despite being normal weight myself. This book gave a good overview of some of the causes and impacts on the children and their environment. Solutions are not easy (my son has been in treatment for several years). The book is well written and informative.
Information is Key

As a mother of two young children (5yrs and 2mths) I picked up this book not because either of my kids have a weight problem, but because I never want them to. The information that I found within its pages really surprised me. Yes, I knew that there were a lot of overweight kids in our society, but I wasn't aware of the truly global impact. This is a very useful book for anyone who wants to learn more about the subject of childhood obesity and how it is effecting the children and our society. It is also helpful for parents who, like me, have children of normal weight and don't want their children to become a part of startling statistics. It has a lot of tips on little things that you can do within your own home. As for parents with children who are already overweight, I think the message of the book is to do all of the little tips within the book, but also get help from a professional. This isn't a book that claims to be able to make your child thin; it is a book that helps you find the motivation you need to get your children healthy and keep them that way.
