Golden continues to impress

Well to be honest, I had never heard of gen13 before, but I have read the mutant empire trilogy from golden. This book showed my who the characters truly are and how they act in real life(excluding the super hero thing).I must say that am truly impressed with the detail and way the book makes you care about the characters, even the icy Ivana Bauil(I don't know why, but you do). I would recomend this book to anyone interested in a good story. And let's hope there are more gen 13 novels coming soon.

For a Helluva Good Time!

In a nutshell, this book deals with Gen 13 trying to stop their old time foe Ivana, and her goon squad of keepers, from opening a gateway to Hell in Las Vegas, as if anyone would notice if they did. At 230 pages, the novel is a quick read. At times it makes the novel feel rushed, and it is for this reason only that the book falls short of 5 stars. On the positive side, Golden and Mariotte do a stand out job in handling the regular Gen 13 characters in their first novel. More often than not, I find that comic book characters lose something in the translation from comic to prose. In this novel, all the regulars maintain their traits that their fans have come to know and love. All and all, a very good first outing for the Gen 13. Hopefully this will lead to a series of novels for them in the vein of the Spider Man and X-Men novels. Golden and Mariotte have proven they know the characters in and out, lets see if they can produce a follow up story thats somewhat more complex than this one was.

Entertaining concept with familier characters

Like a Buffy the Vampire slayer episode or some of Christopher Goldens' Buffy novels, Gen13 Netherwar relies heavily on snappy dialogue as the bad guys are fended off by various superpowered (and in the case of Fairchild, superendowed) teens. The writer's have done a good job of writing about this group, and I thought the supernatural aspect was very well done. I thought it was interesting to read about these characters in the past, kind of, since it takes place a while ago in that universe's timeline, while the group was still based in Lajolla. I would like to see more real books about these guys, as long as they are written well.

Smart and Entertaining -- This is a great read!

It isn't necessary to have ever read a comic book to have a terrific time with this novel. The interaction between the characters is great and the writers have really captured the way a group of young adults talk to each other. The witty dialogue and solid characterization make this the most entertaining book I've read this year.

The GEN13 crew goes to Hell via Las Vegas!

GEN13: NETHERWAR is a kick-% & * horror novel by award winning authors thinly disguised as a superhero novel. The novel chronicles the adventures of five superpowered teens and their mentor as they prevent the world from ending when Hell invades through Las Vegas. NETHERWAR features Fairchild, Freefall, Rainmaker, Grunge and Burnout from the incredibly popular comic, up against their most challenging enemies yet. Whether one is a fan of the comic looking for a little more depth and character development than the action oriented 32-48 page stories usually allow for, or a fan of classic and contemporary horror writing looking for the inside jokes, NETHERWAR has a lot to offer.
