Beginning and building on the basics of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics this text goes on to explain normal and pathological gait, emphasizing the clinical applications of gait analysis. The author covers the wide range of methods available to study gait, from the unaided eye to powerful computer-television systems and the book is accompanied by an interactive multimedia CD-ROM, with 'real' gait data from both a normal subject and a child with cerebral palsy. This new edition brings gait analysis into the real world of the clinic and will be an invaluable help to students and practitioners of physical therapy, orthopaedics, neurology, rheumatology, rehabilitation, bioengineering, and indeed all those involved in the study of human movement. Dr. Michael Whittle holds the Walter M. Cline Chair of Excellence in Rehabilitation Technology in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and has honorary appointments as Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitationin the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He is a qualified doctor, and has higher degrees in physiology and biomedical engineering. He has spent over 20 years running gait analysis laboratories in the University of Oxford, England, and the University of Tennessee. He previously worked as principal coordinating scientist for the musculoskeletal experiments on NASA's Skylab space station.Highly approachable, this book builds upon the basics of anatomy, physiology and biomechanicsIncludes interactive multimedia cd rom with 'real' gait data from a normal subject and a child with cerebral palsyDescribes normal and pathological gait
This book takes you through the various phases of gait, the determinants of gait and then through gait deviations and pathology with simplicity and clarity for the most part. In reading about gait it is easy to get lost in a discussion of various force vectors, and this book strives and succeeds for the most part in keeping the reader out of such a morass. The book continues beyond gait deviations to discuss gait labs and also cutting edge subjects in gait. Good background reading for anyone with a need or interest in this kind of information.

This was a great text in preparing for the CCSP and DACBSP exams. It's a more comprehensive text then a simple chapter of a sports injury textbook devoted toward the topic of gait analysis which is common. I would recommend every sports physician, ATC, PT, sports chiropractor and corrective exercise specialist to have this text in their reference library.
