This is New York as a frontier of the unknown, a world of great beauty and private calm." 55 stunningly beautiful full page brilliant colour photographs. 120 pages. The Best Night Photography

This book is on a lot of photographers' best-of lists for night photography. It displays odd shots of New York: guard rails, the toll booth at the Holland Tunnel, an entrance to a subway in the snow, etc. The colors are distorted by the long exposures, but are not garish as in a lot of night photography (e.g. Tony Paiva). There are few identifiable landmarks, but the World Trade Center (to be exact, parts of it) appear in about 5 photos. The idiosyncratic subjects make you feel as if you sneaked up on the city while it was sleeping. This book can't be too highly recommended for those interested in night and/or urban photography.
