Is symbolic violence-a concept developed by Pierre Bourdieu-a response to the fact that inequalities between women and men persist in our society? If so, how can we hope to achieve true equality when this violence is invisible and women themselves contribute to its perpetuation? To address this issue, this research project is divided into two main phases. The first phase aims to understand Bourdieu's paradigm of male domination, identify its limitations, and examine how it relates to the concepts of gender and gender stereotypes. It will also examine the evolution of the disparaging view held toward women and how they have managed to overcome both this view and their own habitus to assert their rights and advance our democracy. The second part presents the findings of two surveys. While Bourdieu's paradigm-particularly the concept of habitus-remains to be fully explored, it helps us better understand the internal obstacles women face in breaking free from male domination.
