This wonderful new book is designed specifically for the families and friends of people suffering from Bipolar Disorder (manic-depressive disorder). It looks directly -- and lovingly -- at the many... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book has become the foundation of our understanding of BiPolar. It tells you what it is really like from someone who has it and the person in the family that lives with it. It offers practical solutions to problems. Further, it tells you actions needed to keep a home running smoothly---what you can expect out of or from people with BP. Legal papers necessary, good career choices. I use other books occasionally, but this is the one that truly gets you started. I give it the highest recommendation. But, don't expect any response from their website--guess they are only human and it's hard enough to manage their own lives without giving suggestions to others too.
Excellent for bipolar families

this book is a simple and straightforward explanation of what bipolar is and the realities of what families, including children, can expect and not expect. I highly recommend this book and it is inexpensive enough to give to close family and friends who will be closely interacting with your loved one. I think this book should be given along with the diagnosis to the patient's family.
Very insightful.

A guide that goes to the heart of the matter. One learns to fully relate to the person behind the illness.
What an Eye-Opener!

Some months ago, even before the book was published, I had the privilege of reading the Meehls' manuscript, and as I took in the information they presented I became aware that my son, now more than 40 years old, might perhaps be bipolar. Fortunately, I was able to convince him to see a diagnostician, and -- lo and behold -- the we discovered, indeed, that he has Bipolar Disorder with secondary schizophrenia. He is in treatment now, hanging in there and taking his medications, using the book as a daily guide to living. His friends (and even his kids) now say he's a changed person. There's no doubt in my mind that this concise guide can be a "life-saver" -- perhaps literally! -- for sufferers and a wonderful, practical, useful ongoing roadmap leading to a healing regimen of enormous value to family, friends and co-workers.
