For people who believe their is ONE True Faith and who aspire to conform their life and their mind t

This book and a few others were suggested to me after I attended a latin mass for the first time and realized that my K-12 catholic education and contemporay catholic literature reading (ie. Mathew Kelly), had really failed to educate me on the depth and overwhelming beauty of the Catholic faith. This book is not for the casual reader it it's very intellectual. But what I do love about it is how it ties the superficial & pleasant type of Catholicism that I lived before to the deep, timeless, and perfectly ordered tradition of the faith. It is hard to say now which book made which impact as I read them in quick succession, but in reading these books I can clearly say that my understanding of my faith is radically deeper now. (For reference the other books were: The Latin Mass Explained by moorman, and The Sinner's guide by Louis of granada, and the Catechism of the Council of Trent.) If you have been Catholic all your life, but havn't explored the older writings (and contemporary writings by traditional minded) about the faith, you just might be shocked by the depth and clarity. This exploration of the beliefs we profess from a timeless perspective blends what I knew, with that older more traditional perspective which really fills in the gaps and makes it all make more sense. The best way I can explain it is 'the why and why not behind the things I already knew'. The pieces just fit together better now, and I didn't realize I had any pieces missing. I saw the other review from a protestant who was desturbed by the "legalism." It is a fair point. If you are a protestant who believes that each individual should interpret the faith for him/herself and that you have the right to reject any teaching you don't agree with or don't understand, or don't believe are important. . . then yes this catechism and all others are going to rub you the wrong way. This book really is only for people who believe their is ONE True Faith and who aspire to conform their life and their mind to that Truth.

Best catechism

A catechism for today. Contains all of the timeless teaching and dogma of the Catholic Church but with a view to the challenges of today. This catechism can be compared to that of the Council of Trent with the bonus of making the teachings of the Church relatable to modern man.

Legalistic Garbage

Didn't like it AT ALL, I bought it because I was looking into Catholicism and I threw it away after reading a few pages. It basically says that if your not a traditional Catholic you're going to hell. I can't accept that, repentance is required, following Jesus is required, being part of a church community is required, but to say that basically everyone is going to hell unless they are apart of your specific denomination is ridiculous. I guess I could thank this book for leading me to the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church after seeing how legalist historic Catholicism is.
