This book was an amazing one to hear. I say "hear" because I listened to the book on tape. One person in particular in a review said that the book was boring at the start. The book, however, was not boring at all, if listened to by careful naration by the person talking on tape. Filled with suspense, the book carries you on a journey back in time for me. Great emotion in the book. I loved it. It is a story about fulfilling a dead father's dreams, and realizing she is fulfilling her own. Read the book. It is good time spent! Great immagination too. The author teaches you to think carefully before you act, and to not let life pass you by. Realize the gifts you have been given.
This is the best book I have ever read! And I read a lot!

If you have not yet read "Fortune's Journey", then you are missing out on a real treat. I can honestly say that this is my most favorite book in the whole world! So, read it! You know, Bruce Coville has written this so well you think you are actually in the book with Fortune Plunkett and the crew. It really keeps you wondering who will end up with who, I mean, if Fortune will end up with Aaron or Jamie. But it is really a great book. READ IT! YOU HAVE TO!
Can't put it down!

The year is 1853. Bravely carrying on the work and dream of her late father, young Fortune Plunkett is forced to grow up as she faces the realities of the Wild West. As she leads the acting troupe- Plunkett Players westward on a wagon train bound for San Fransico, she finds herself in many situations she never dreamed possible. In the untamed West, anything could happen- and it often did. Fires destroyed towns onernight, rives ran wild in heavy rains and wagons didn't always make it up steep, gravelly bends of mountain crossings.Throughout the hard journey, Fortune was trapped in a silent war over her, which raged between her two admirers- Aaron and Jamie, one of whom was the newest member of her troupe. Though at first extremely confused over her true feelings, Fortune soon learns to follow her heart- to give in to something she had tried to surpress right from the beginning, to differentiate between love and friendship. This book never fails to make you hang in suspense. Till the point you feel like dying if you don't find out what happens. Filled with unending romance, and careful research, "Fortune's Jouney" is a book you'll never regret reading.
A book proving that love always wins in the end.

At first sight, this book seems like it would be boring. But in fact, it is the complete oppisite. Fortune Plunkett an inspiring actress finds herself in situations that she would never have thought possible. Taking on the dangerous route to California on the Oregon Trail is one thing...but fighting to keep her life and the lifes of her family together is another. She must choose between love and friendship, greed and loss. Not to mention her own war happening right inside of her head. The book has characters that you instantly fall in love with. I know, i found myself wanting Jamie to resight "Romeo and Juliet" to me. A good book is one that makes you never want to put it down, and one that makes you want to read it over and over again, and yet never makes tired of it. Bruce Coville does a wonderful job of making this book fit in to that description. So I hope that furture readers will take this book into consideration it is truly inspiring and wonderful piece of literature.

This book is a wonderfull book. It is my favorite book by my favorite author. It is about a girl that runs an actor colony. As they head for California they pick up a young boy that Fortune (the girl) finds herself falling in love with. She doesn't want to attmit it but finally is forced to one day. That same day she and the boy (Jamie) discover gold. Later, one of the actors looses it all and Jamie gets the wrong idea when he sees Fortune's old boyfriend leaving her room. He leaves and later they find out that he is the son of another woman in the troop. Together they work to be reunited. As I said, it is the best book I have ever read.
