Doormat Gets a Do-Over

Our poor, idiot heroine basically lets everyone use her as a doormat. She has the cheating boyfriend, the critical parents, the grouchy unappreciative boss, and so on and on and on. It is incredibly funny at times. When she is hurt in an accident, she fakes amnesia for quite a while because she wants people to have sympathy for her and to start their relationship anew on better terms. It is hilarious and entertaining. If you have any doormat tendencies or know a friend who does, you will just love this book.

All in all a great book!

I loved this book! Absolutely chick-littie, but laugh-out-loud funny, with great music references and all in all tons of fun. I'm VERY excited to hear rumours that it's to be made into a movie. Also, I'm excited for S. to read it. I was also quite excited to learn that the author is the daughter of Ginger from _Gilligan's Island_.

loved it

Few books have made me laugh out loud, and Caprice Crane has written two of them. She writes with such a great voice, at such a fine pace, that while this book stole an entire Saturday from me, I might read it again tomorrow. I appreciate the intelligent story, the clever prose and the character development is fantastic. You'll hate the mother and sister, totally lust after Travis and wish you had friends like Todd and Cat. If you don't laugh out loud at the smelly foot incident, you're not paying attention. I hope she's writing book 3 as I type....!

you won't forget this book!

I had promised myself a book as a reward for a stressful week and spent a lunch time meandering around the UPenn bookstore... 'Forget About It' caught my eye (great marketing - it's bright green & pops out at you) - I picked it up, merely read that it was by the author of 'Stupid and Contagious' and jetted to the register without even reading the blurb on the back. firstly - I hate the term 'chick lit'... because there are some books that fall into that genre that are written by incredibly smart & funny & articulate women, and I feel like 'chick lit' implies something else. but never mind - whatever the genre, I loved Caprice's first book... and I loved this one, which though I struggled to make it last - I was sucked into and read in three days. For me - that's the sign of a good book. If I'm still trying to read it after a week - it's not because it's long, it's because I'm bored! We all know this heroine, in some form. My roommate is a Jordan - smart and caring, and more often than I'd like to witness - a pushover. I have informed her that she is reading the book next and she has conceded. (see?) In this case - it'll be a good thing. Yay, Caprice, you rock!! I want another one :) and I want to meet Todd...

Be careful what you wish for!

Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (6/07) Having totally enjoyed Caprice Crane's first book, "Stupid and Contagious," I was really looking forward to reading her latest, "Forget About It." I was not disappointed! In this story, twenty-five year old Jordan Landau is not happy with her life. She has a boyfriend who takes her for granted and cheats on her. Her mother and sister have no respect for her, and her boss steals her ideas. She is miserable because she keeps allowing this stuff to happen. On a positive note, she does have two great best friends, Cat and Todd. Todd has been in love with Jordan since they were married at age seven. One day, Jordan is involved in an accident with a man named Travis. Jordan decides to use the accident and her minor head injury as a chance to claim amnesia. As a person with amnesia, she reinvents herself and what she is willing to tolerate. On an interesting note, she also experiences people lying to her about how she was prior to the accident. She really learns a lot from this. This also leads to some hysterical scenes for the reader. Jordan finds herself attracted to Travis. She also discovers that she really doesn't care for Dirk, her cheating boyfriend. Todd complicates things by declaring his love for her. During Jordan's time of fake amnesia, she learns how strong that she can really be. Her justified revenge on her abusers puts her in the driver's seat of reclaiming her strength. Unfortunately, she experiences another accident that teaches her what it is really like to experience amnesia. She has to start all over again and figure out her is really telling her the truth about who she really is: her friends or her family. I really, really enjoyed "Forget About It." Ms. Crane has a great talent for writing humor with depth. I could really relate to Jordan and her desire to stop being a pushover. I suspect that her actions fuel the fantasies of many women in getting even with people who are not honoring who they are. In Jordan's character, Ms. Crane writes, "...you can't run from who you are, but you can certainly change who you are. Every day you get the chance to decide who you want to be." I think that these wise words apply to us all.
