The Shakespeare women were what the locals of Greenwich Village called "gifted." They did tarot readings and cast spells from their infamous shop Second Site. And each morning, Rowie would perform her popular weather prediction on the pavement outside. Sure, Rowie's predictions were helpful for forecasting the weather, but when it came to love, her abilities were more like a curse. Why bother dating a guy if you knew at the first kiss he was destined for someone else? And how would she ever meet anyone while she was stuck working at the family shop? Rowie was resigned to never finding love. Until Drew Henderson, New York's hottest weatherman is injured and the network decides to replace him with a gimmick-the Psychic Weatherwoman. The very scientific Drew is furious. The witch might light up the TV screen. But how dare the network make a mockery of meteorology. Now Rowie's overbearing grandmother Gwendolyn won't talk to her. Sixteen generations of Shakespeare women have worked in the family business. How dare she make a mockery of her gift. But Rowie loves her new job, and won't let anyone ruin it. Until the day Drew Henderson kisses her, and she can't predict his future. In fact she can't predict anything. Forecast is the first book in the Shakespeare Sisters series.
Not in the habit of reading "romance" novels, but this one is full of charm, wit, and magic. Found myself (as a male) wishing for a chance to meet Miss Shakespeare(and you can't ask for more than that from a novel). Can't say I would read it again (another thing I don't make a habit of), but I can say that the women in this novel have stayed with me. If I had a criticism, it would be that I don't think that any of the men are worthy (or in the same league) as Miss Shakespeare or the other women in the novel, but that might just be jealousy talking.
What's the forecast today?

I really enjoyed Forecast. The whole Shakespear family was entertaining to read about. It was different than your average romance book. I liked how everything tied up nicely in the end. I hope to read more books from this author in the future.
Psychic meets Scientist and the sparks fly
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
The Shakespeare women are psychic. Grandmother Gwendolyn speaks to the dead. Daughter Lilia speaks to Fairies. And Granddaughter Rowie, well, she speaks to the weather. Every morning her neighbors and friends gather on her doorstep to hear the "weather report". Which is never wrong. Drew Henderson is the charismatic "hot" weather reporter on the local news. He doesn't believe in anything that can't be scientifically proven. When Drew breaks his leg and Rowie is asked to fill in for him....the sparks fly. Author Jane Tara has written a wonderful book full of humor, psychic phenomena and romance. The interaction between the three Shakespeare women are complex and believable. These are real people that the reader can identify with and enjoy. We can laugh with them. It's a good story. The other aspect of this book I liked is that it treated psychic talents as just another part of life. It didn't try to educate the reader on the supernatural or pagan religions and it wasn't portrayed as something bizarre and otherworldly. The characters didn't take themselves too seriously and they were able to laugh at themselves. It made the psychic gifts fun and you wanted to know what would happen next. It was this aspect of the book that brought it from a 4 star to a 5 star for me. I would recommend this book highly and I hope to see more books soon from Jane. She's on my watch list for new titles. And Forecast is in my permanent library.
What a great read and ride!

Jane Tara's book "Forecast" should be forecasted as a best seller. What a fun read and the characters were so well written that I identified with more than one and couldn't put the book down. Lots of love, lust, learning and metaphysics presented through the eyes of both believer and doubter... I'll let you read it to see which side wins out. Tara's wit woven througout her writing puts a twinkle in the eye of many characters, I may steal a few one-liners and use them on my pals! Truly a joy to read, and re-read! Looking forward to her next one!
Forecast: quirky & mystic romantic comedy

I enjoy reading good romantic comedy, but its not often that I encounter a book in this genre where I think, as soon as I've finished it, "I've got to read this again"! I loved Jane Tara's book. She really knows her stuff about psychic and mystic phenomena. Together with the fact that she has an awesome talent for comedic writing, this book is more than an enjoyable read: it stays with you. Following Rowie Shakespeare's quirky life and her romantic ( & psychic) trials and tribulations is all the more enjoyable because of the well-developed crew of support characters. Highly recommended!
