Why the Bible? In November, we are not voting for a new pastor, priest, or Sunday school teacher; so why should we measure our candidates by the principles found in God's Word? In 2 Timothy 3:17 we are told, "It Scripture] is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do." While we don't expect to see the specific words that mentions every policy in the government, it is reasonable to hope that if we can see the Lord in a candidate, they will be more likely to achieve God's will for their position. In James 2:14, we read, "Dear brothers and sisters, what's the use of saying you have faith if you don't prove it by your actions?" What is God's desire for our communities, states, and country? That we obey Him. What are His greatest commandments? To love the Lord our God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Simple? Yes. Easy? No. Becoming more like Jesus is a lifelong process. As believers, may we be unified in our purpose to be more like Him and to vote into office individuals who practice the same principles.
