When flight attendant Hailey Lane learns the rest of her trip has been cancelled and she can fly straight home to spend her birthday with her boyfriend Michael, she's thrilled. Her early arrival will... This description may be from another edition of this product.
They say you should write what you know. Clearly Alyson Noel knows the life of a flight attendant. So many hilarious stories and situations that an ex-f/a myself, laughed myself silly. Stories and conversations from everything like, "you smell like the middle seat" to how f/a are always praying for delays unless they are deadheading home from a trip. Still, even those who know nothing of the business can totally relate and appreciate the story of friendship, heartache, discovering oneself, discovering new loves, and sifting through the rubbish relationships with the opposite sex. The book is great in its characterizations and witty, believable dialogue, and the many surprising, heartfelt, clever storylines. It ended all too quickly for me though-- in fact I was looking throught the last blank pages to make sure it really ended where it did because I just did not want it to end. And yet, you will never be able to get on a plane again without looking at the inflight crew and wonder... This is certainly a delightful read. Some may call it chick lit, as if that is a crime! A great travel companion -- or rainy day escape!
For my first adult book...

It was great! Yes I'm a teen and my mom probably wouldn't like most of the adult content in it but I read it anyway. And don't get me wrong, there was nothing new to me in this book. But Hailey has to find herself and her guy style in this novel. Clay her gay best friend helps her get there and Kat her older friend helps her too. A witty novel of interesting and suspenseful conflict. A good read for anyone 13 and up honestly.

Hailey Lane is a flight attendant on a mission. Her current job assignment has been cancelled and she couldn't be happier since it is her birthday. Rushing home to be with the man she loves and lives with, she can't wait to see him because she just knows he is going to propose. Her hopes and dreams come crashing to a halt when Hailey walks into her bedroom and sees her man being serviced extremely erotically by another. Unable to watch a minute longer, Hailey immediately grabs her stuff and swiftly escapes the apartment. Waking up with a hangover, Hailey knows one thing is for certain. She needs a place to stay and she needs support, which she gets tenfold. Her friends are there for her, and once the vodka, Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Thai food, and cigars have been engulfed, Hailey comes up with a plan to get over her hurt. There's nothing better than free flight passes and layovers to exotic places to mend her trampled heart. Who knows what will happen? She might even find the man for her. Usually not a fan of chick lit, I hesitated to open FLY ME TO THE MOON. However, as I began to read, I easily pictured the character of Hailey in my mind; sparkly, friendly, and just plain fun. I quickly found myself thoroughly amused at her antics and wincing when those same antics got her into trouble. FLY ME TO THE MOON is Hailey's evolution from a somewhat naïve woman into a woman of the world who knows what she wants and is willing to do what she needs to do in order to achieve her desires. Using laugh-out-loud humor and realistic everyday situations, Alyson Noel produces a fun journey of self-discovery that shouldn't be missed. You will find yourself giggling as you root for Hailey to land the man of her dreams as well as the life that she wants. I found FLY ME TO THE MOON to be an enormously engaging read and am looking forward to exploring any future offerings from Alyson Noel.
Excellent for the escape genre

This book fits chick lit - what I call an airplane book: something to pack when you're stuck on a miserable flight or when you've had a long day and want to escape into someone else's world. True, it's like Sex and the City (without the glamour or the income of the four women). And if you're thinking of writing a chick-lit novel, this one could be a model of the form. As you read the opening, it's all too easy to guess what's about to happen...but if you're like me, you'll keep reading anyway. The writing is that good. We begin to care about the heroine right on page 1. Noel serves up a little something extra (like one of those free drinks you used to get when the plane was late): a no-holds-barred, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of a real flight attendant on a real airline. If you liked Plane Insanity by Elliott Hester, and if you're at all tolerant of chick lit, you'll love this book. Okay, let's guess: Which airline? My guess is Delta, because at one point the author describes a tier of international flight attendants added to the roster following a merger. That would be Pan Am. American merged with TWA, another former global power, but TWA's cabin attendants seemed to have a scrubbed Midwestern look. Quibbles: The heroine's friends are a little too convenient and stereotypical. I like to see heroines dig their way out of their own messes - which Hailey does, though not till the very end. But hey, the novel does what it promises, with some extras for airline buffs. If you're seeking literary fiction, you won't even go here. That's fine with the author and with me, too.
great flight attendant character!

As a flight attendant, I'm always hesitant when I see a book with a flight attendant character, since usually they appear in literature either as total bimbos or as the treacherous "other woman", or sometimes both! In Fly me to the Moon, however, Hailey Lane, the main character, quickly put my fears to rest. No outdated stereotypes here--Hailey is a down-to-earth, intelligent, yet still fun-loving twenty-something who it's easy to root for. The novel follows Hailey through a particularly eventful few months of her life, in New York and on the road, dealing with relationship issues and the downsizing of her airline. The author clearly knows her stuff when it comes to describing the job and accurately captures the stress, but also the comraderie, that go along with the position these days. The novel moves at a fast pace and is often laugh-out-loud funny. I highly recommend it to industry insiders and outsiders alike!
