I hated physical education in school. Other than being the school tennis star and only female hardball player, I hated what we then called gym class. Of course, I paid for that later and shame on my parents for helping me get excused from gym class. Fast forward to 2010 --- physical education has changed and is now an attractive option to being fat and unhealthy. In this new edition of "Fitness for Life" the student will learn just about everything possible about getting in shape and staying that way all their lives. This is up-to-date information based on real science. I was amazed at the wealth of information in this book! This is not a dull textbook. It's a fascinating opportunity for students from grade 9 thru 12 to learn how they can be healthy, fit and look great with physical activity and proper nutrition. Moreover, it shows the student what he or she needs to do and how to do it if they want to be fit and look good. And what kid doesn't want to look good? The book is also aimed at secondary PE teachers or for undergrad courses in PE teacher preparation. One thing that impresses me about the book is that is doesn't assume the student has any knowledge of physical fitness. It starts from square one. But, it tests the students knowledge and ability and works with that as a base. Following are the contents of the book. Contents Contributors Unit I. Getting Started Chapter 1. Fitness and Wellness for All Activity 1: Starter Workout Lesson 1.1 Fitness for Life Self-Assessment: Exercise Basics Lesson 1.2 Fitness Through Physical Activity Taking Charge: Making Self-Assessments Self-Management Skill: Learning to Self-Assess Activity 2: Health- and Skill-Related Fitness Stunts Chapter Review Chapter 2. Not a bad book, easy to follow. Had to purchase it for a correspondence class and it was cheaper to buy it here than from the school. (about $10 less)
My ex-wife swore by this book.

My ex-wife swore by this book and I watched as her weight decreased. I got the book and now we have a bet on who is going to lose the weight first. Six meals a day sounded pretty good, so I thought I would try it. I just started but I know it works because I watched her do it.
Correct book for correspondence course

My daughter is taking a correspondence course from Texas Tech. The course is "Foundations in Personal Fitness", which she needs in order to graduate from high school. I am giving this book 5 stars because it is the correct book and edition required by Texas Tech, as of July 2005. I don't know how good the book is, but every few days she brings up something that she learned from this book.
