Fit at 70: My Roadmap to Lifelong Strength

Allow me to help you create a physique you'll be proud of. I'm not a professional bodybuilder. I'm not a doctor. I'm not an exercise scientist. I'm an ordinary guy who walked into a gym at thirty-three years old with no real training experience and decided I wanted to change. That decision was made in 1989. Nearly four decades later, at seventy years old, I'm still training. I've made mistakes along the way. I've lifted weights I shouldn't have lifted. I've dealt with injuries, including a torn rotator cuff that eventually required surgery. I've experimented with different exercises, routines, diets, and supplements. Most importantly, I've learned-and gathered a vast knowledge of "how to," allowing me to make recommendations based on that knowledge. This book isn't about telling you that my way is the only way. It isn't. It's about sharing what I've experienced, what worked for me, what didn't work for me, and the lessons I've learned from showing up year after year. Exercise science has changed tremendously since I started. When I began, there was no YouTube video waiting to demonstrate every exercise. I learned by reading, watching others, experimenting, making mistakes, and paying attention to my own body. Somewhere along the way, fitness stopped being something I did. It became part of who I am. If you're holding this book because you want a better physique, I'll help you get started. But I hope you discover something much greater along the way.

Confidence. Discipline. Patience, Self-respect. And the realization that growing older doesn't mean you have to stop becoming stronger. I'm seventy years old as I write this. I can't lift everything I could lift when I was forty-and I don't try to. My goals have changed. But my commitment hasn't. If there's one idea I want you to carry with you through every chapter that follows, it's this: Don't try to become somebody else. Become the strongest, healthiest, best version of yourself that you can be. That's what I've tried to do. Now I'd like to help you do the same. - Sid Bowdidge
