Kites in folklore and history, briefly, with instructions.
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
Mr. Evans' book takes a refreshing look at the history of kites in both fact and folklore. Various cultural origins of kites are discussed as are the uses to which they have been pressed throughout history and across many cultures. These "lessons" are intermixed with culturally diverse folk tales and a great modern "crush" story. Manufacturing instructions for three different kites, basic flying instructions and a great student bibliography round out the book. Beautiful photographs and truly outstanding illustrations by Ms. D'Arcy add greatly to the stories and history. This book is now integrated into my team's middle school unit on Laurence Yep's "Dragonwings" and kite-making.
