It is SO hard to find a decent book for toddlers about having a baby brother or sister. I didn't want anything that went into great detail about the birth itself, and I didn't want anything that gave my 2 1/2 year old ideas about sibling rivalry. This book fit the bill perfectly. It's very positive about the experience of having a new baby in the house, and basically says: Mommy's tummy is getting big; there's a baby in there; I can sometimes feel it kick; one day Mommy went to the hospital and the baby was born; now the baby is home and I love to play with him. They do show the baby being bottle fed, but this is a minor detraction if you plan to breastfeed exclusively. It's a real shame this book is out of print!

I started reading this with my daughter when she was 18 months old, 3 months before her brother was born. I know the publisher says for ages 3-8, but she LOVED it. We read it again and again, and it really helped prepare her for how things would go--the baby goes kick, kick; Daddy takes Mommy to the hospital; we visit her in the hospital; Grandma comes to help; sometimes the baby cries, sometimes he sleeps, sometimes he drinks milk, etc. I really like the total family focus, as opposed to just "me and new baby."
