First Base Ball

By Mark Sotomayor

HE COULD CATCH ANYTHING. EXCEPT A BREAK.

Lucas Shepherd is the MVP of the Syracuse Helios - a golden boy with a swing made for highlight reels and a secret no camera can capture: he sees angels. And when the voice he's followed all his life tells him to walk away from baseball at the peak of his career, Lucas obeys... and trades a stadium of forty thousand fans for a shelter full of forgotten men.

The world calls him insane. His general manager calls him a fraud - and calls his lawyers. But something older and colder is watching from the corners of every room, and it made Lucas a promise the day he opened his doors:

"I'll be following you."

When an unthinkable act of violence turns his house of hope into a crime scene, Lucas finds himself on trial for the massacre of the very men he saved - with no witnesses, no alibi, and no defense but the truth no court on earth could believe. His freedom, his family, and his faith now hang on a single question:

What if the security cameras caught something that wasn't human?

From the author of Homeless: 90 Days Under a Bridge comes a supernatural thriller about grace, obedience, and the devil's greatest miscalculation - a story where the verdict is decided in two courtrooms at once... and only one of them is on Earth.

You can't steal first base. But it can be given.
