Having been stung by a manticore as a young child, Ydana has never known what it's like not to be shunned by society. With a cat's eyes and an appetite for raw meat, she stands out no matter how much her family tries to suppress her and make her seem human.

When Ydana is unable to conceal her manticore nature at a party, she runs into the mysterious Val, the manticore who originally stung her. But the embarrassment to her family and her growing feelings for Val are the least of her worries when she learns that there are people who would hunt her kind to extinction.
