Fields of Faith

A battlefront hospital

Women saving lives

Friendships formed, families torn apart

France 1914: The German invasion stymies Eugenie's dream to become a doctor. Desperate to aid the war effort and remain close to her beau, Andr , she signs on as a volunteer.

With her new found friend, Sophie, a young woman striving to earn the approval of her family, the volunteers battle with rules and protocols stifling their ability to utilise basic nursing skills.

Adie, a New Zealand nurse far from home, the only daughter in a family of seven joins the pair as they transfer to a field hospital close to the battlefront.

Living under the constant threat of attack, the bonds of friendship are strengthened. The women support one another, finding humour and love amid the horrors of war.

As weapons evolve and fighting tactics adapt, the women's nursing skills are honed but together they learn not all injuries are able to be cleansed, stitched and bandaged. Some linger deeper and require more than a field hospital or a nurse can possibly provide.

The second novel in the Liberating Le Quesnoy takes the reader beyond the fortified walls of Le Quesnoy and into the battlefields for an authentic retelling of life at the front, not from the soldiers but those who were there to support them and tend to their wounds.
