'Ferryhill Memories' is the memoir of miner's daughter, Joyce Veitch. Growing up in Ferryhill, County Durham, the book describes the family backgrounds of the Veitch, Stobbart, Barton and Dennis families, childhood pursuits and adventures, and also has aspects of the social history of the coal mining industry of the time, schooling and the position of working class women. The book ends with Joyce moving away from Ferryhill to enter the teaching profession in London where she married jazz drummer Patrick Ford.
