Great fun and learn something along the way

I just picked up the book and it didn't take long to learn food trivia that always made you go "hmmmmmmmmm". Like "lox" of lox and bagels is actually the word for salmon in German, who knew?. Or Weinersnitzal means "slice of Vienna". I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who eats and has room left over for intellectual stimulation. I don't travel much but I do eat international cuisine all the time and now I know I can branch out past spicy tuna rolls...

International Traveler

I love this book! As a busy international business woman, I travel the world and eat so many times alone in restaurants in places with strange sounding names and strange sounding foods. The Fearless Gourmet will always be in my briefcase as a quick and easy reference to dining around the world. With the help of this book, I can feel more comfortable with the menu, no matter where I am. I can look up the names of the foods and know what to order, when so many times no one speaks English. This book is a real find to international dining and lots of good wit along the way from Norman Kolpas.

This one will be dog-eared

I just hope for all the restaurants' sake, their food is as well presented as Norman Kolpas's writing. He makes the complicated world of dining seem both manageable and throughly enjoyable. The more unique the food seems, the easier to understand Mr. Kolpas portrays it. A real contribution!

Don't leave home without it

I felt that I had to write a review of this excellent book. I've seen food dictionaries before, but this is the best I've ever read. Norman Kolpas writes with such clarity and wit. The book is easy to read and every page has some humorous observation. I found it very helpful that the terms are grouped according to geographic areas around the globe. The book is the right size for traveling and I can tell that it will hold up to use. I give this book a 5-star rating, just like the best restaurants.
