Magnolias and Fireflies

John Cother has captured the small town Mississipppi life that, I, like JT and Lesi, experienced in the summer of 1965. Reading Fear of Spiders is like taking a walk under the magnolias, capturing fireflies in a Mason jar and drinking iced tea at the kitchen table. JT and Lesi, though siblings, are much like good friends from any small town where everyone knows each other's names, problems, joys and sorrows. Some might consider the trials that JT and Lesi face during that fateful summer to be a bit exaggerated, but folks from the South know that heartache and sadness are as much a part of life as sultry nights and lazy days. The books is a delightful read with just enough humor thrown in to make the reader believe again in the innocent exuberance of youth. Set to the strains of the Beatles' nostalgic "Yesterday," you'll find it hard to put down Fear of Spiders.

Waiting for Book 2!!!

This was an unbelievable book! I found myself making my child go to bed 30min early just so I could hurry and start reading. J.T. and Lesi captured my heart quicker than any characters from any other book. I literally laughed outloud reading some of J.T.'s comments......but that was one of the reasons I did fall in love with him. This book was quite an emotional roller coaster and I will admit I got angry somewhat when certain misfortunes befell them. I believe this is a great read for any person.....whether from the South or not. Be prepared to laugh your head off on one page and cry your eyes out on the next. Great job Mr. Cother!!! I'm ready for Book #2. Hope its coming soon!!!

spectacular read

You know the kind of book that pulls you in, makes the characters come to life, and forces you to keep reading until the wee hours of the morning?? Fear of Spiders is just that kind book. I love JT and Lesi, who share a bond only a brother and sister could know. Their adventures during the hot and humid Mississippi summer of 1965 prove to be highly entertaining, moving, and at times unthinkable and unexpected. I laughed and cried out loud, and have found myself using "JTisms" when no other words will do. I know you will love this book as much as I do.

Very entertaining read

Having grown up in the South, I found this book to be both charming and entertaining. A moving coming-of-age story with an adorably charming lead character. It has thrills and humor, and even a little innocent romance. Several laugh-out-loud moments. It reminds you what it feels like to be a child when everything is an adventure and even the tough times can't keep you down for too long.

Prepare to be entertained!

REVIEW of: FEAR OF SPIDERS John E. Cother, Author Behler Publications Lake Forest, Calif. (2005) Read to be entertained, read to be moved, and read to thrill to the uniquely captivating story of a young boy's move to manhood over the course one very difficult and yet triumphant summer. Mr. Cother has so artfully portrayed young, endearing, J.T. that I have to agree "he is a heartbreaker" and mine is gone to him. The scene is gritty southern, Elvis's Tupelo, in the summer of new Rock n' Roll, the Beatles, Beach Boys and short shorts, perfect for those who will remember and required reading for those who don't. Highly Recommended ***** CJ Morace Author of: "Cocodrie" "Applachia"
