Nice Western Story

I am an avid reader of everything and after catching 'Unforgiven' on television one afternoon I had the craving for a Western. So - I was at the store and saw this book and decided to give it a bite. I'm glad I did! It was a very good story. Of course, this type of book won't bang down the doors of the great literature halls, but for a story it was well worth the money. The premise of the story is obvious and the plot is predictable, but what I really liked about the book is that Compton made me laugh several times and also put my imagination to work when the main character got into some trouble with odd outlaws. Compton also gets you to FEEL emotionally for the main character - which for me gives the story huge credibility. For all that - the book would get 5 stars. However, a few tangles in Compton's language broke my attention a couple times and although the ending was great, it seemed rushed, so I have to knock off a star for that. Still - this is a very good story and I'm glad I was able to experience a wonderful ride with Marshal Asher Thrall.

A Dead Man Walking, a must read western!

Revenge? Simple enough. Someone does something to you and you get even. But this story is far from simple. Revenge isn't the only operative. Marshall Ashton Thrall no longer is wearing his badge, but he is on the trail of one of the vilest outlaws there is, Ben Sharkey. As long as there is one breath left his body, he is going to get his man. Or is he? Those breaths are numbered. Ashton Thrall is a shawdow of the man he once was. It isn't only justice or revenge that is keeping him going. There is a lot more to this story than meets the eye. Time is running out. There is lots of action. You find yourself hooked from the beginning. Addicted to what is going to happen next. This is one of the best character studies of a man I've read in a western in a long time. Great read well worth your time!

You'll be addicted by the time you finish Fatal Justice !!

Fatal Justice - A Ralph Compton novel by David Robbins - Genre: Western The latest Ralph Compton book by David Robbins is a dark but enthralling tale as the leader character Ash Thrall, a dead man walking, who's only living for one thing, revenge on the person who put him in this deadly predicament, an outlaw called Ben Sharkey. The tale that then evolves is thrilling with bags of great action, many emotional up's and down's as Ash struggles with his condition and an addiction that eventually will rule his life as he tries to gain the vengeance he desperately craves. Excellent characterisation in the plot with some great character's and a return of a favourite person of mine from a previous book (Bullet For A Bad Man). Skelman deserves a book to himself IMHO (I hope this happens - HINT, HINT !!). So to sum up this is a sad tale but one I found strangely uplifting when I finished it, another excellent Western from the pen of David Robbins.
