3, 2, 1, Swish with 'HOOPS'

Swish after swish, countdown after countdown, all in this action-packed, 130 page book! HOOPS (Fast Breaks), has tons of last second shots that make your heart pound like a herd of elephants. You can just about imagine what it would be like to be sitting in the gym with all this excitement going through your head. HOOPS (Fast Breaks) is about a basketball star named Brian Davis. He lived in the small town of Paintville, Indiana and played for the Paintville, Cornhuskers. Brian was known around for his six foot, eight inch frame and long arching jump shots. He was the best player on his team, and may have been the best player in the state of Indiana. The Cornhuskers were so good that year that they made it to the championship. Yet, a couple hours before the game started, Brian got some bad news. His mom came up to him and told him that right after the game they needed to move to the big city of Indianapolis. She told him that they needed to get away from his father because he was an alcoholic and his drinking had become worse. At this point Brian was about as down as he had ever felt. Brian knew he had to go into the game thinking only about the game and nothing else. Despite Brian having the greatest game of his career so far, in which he scored a regional record thirty-seven points and sixteen rebounds, Cobleville defeated the Cornhuskers 75-64. Brian knew this would be the last game with his team and now that he lost, he was feeling really down. So will Brian get better or worse with his new big city basketball team? You will just have to read this excellent book to find out. It is a great book for those who like basketball or those who just like action books. Also, after you're done reading HOOPS (Fast Breaks), check out more of Kirk Marshall's HOOPS series. You'll enjoy them all!

Keep Trying

A Review by MattBrian lives in a small town in Indiana. Everything in their town is about high school basketball. Brian stars on his team. He finds out later he has to move. He doesn't take it too well. So Brian and his family end up moving to Indianapolis. He has to pick up with his school basketball in the middle of the season. Their team is supposed to be really good. They make it to the state tournament. That is all I can tell you without giving away the ending. One thing I didn't like about the book was how it started off. I think it stated off too slow for me. It just started off when Brian was shooting around at practice. It kept going on for a while and that's when it started to get boring. Also I didn't like the action. I mean I liked the action but there wasn't very much of it. There was no action until about half way through the book when they had their first game. But after that point it was all up hill and action packed. The last thing I didn't like was the descriptions of the characters. You have no clue what the main character looks like except that he is his height. Also you don't know what any of the other characters look like. I would recommend this book for people who like basketball and someone who is a patient reader. You have to wait for the action in this book. It's a good but for about people from the ages of 12-20 who can read a slow book.
