GREAT BOOK! But there is something lost..

..I hope there will be a 2nd edition of "FASHION ASIA" because BIYAN's creations for 2001 are way more stunning (oh those beadworks and fabric selections!) than the past collection featured in this book. If there will be a 2nd Edition, I strongly suggest that the author give more pages for BIYAN featuring only the best and his out-of-this-world newest creations. Also more for Didi Budiarjo! Not to mention Tan Yoong's bridal line from Singapore, which is absolutely superb, but not even mentioned in this book. The author only reviewed Tan Yoong's evening gowns, but he could have just concentrated on Tan Yoong's bridal gowns which are more heavenly than the evening gowns. Mr Douglas, please consider making a 2nd edition, the world has to know about the best of 2001 from these designers..!Now on the book itself, it is somewhat a milestone because it gives a big opportunity for Asian fashion to be acknowledged internationally and gain more exposure. The only flaw is that (I think) it is lack of informations on the ultimate creations from Indonesian designers. There were many more fabulous creations I have seen myself from past collections than what were featured in this book. All in all, this book is quite a good reference.Way to go, Mr Douglas!

Great Fashion

I remember when Douglas came to Jakarta, Indonesia and asked me to put some of my collections and take photos, and it turned out that the book came out really great, and this is the first book that shows many of other designers from other asian countries and it is appreciated because Douglas is also the first person who ever thought to do this kind of fashion book and published them in a nice layouts and good quality of paper and photos. I wish Douglas keep continuing writing more about different kind of fashion looks from all over the world. Good luck and thank you for asking me to join the photos for this book.Love, carmanita

A Superb First-of-a-Kind Book and a Much-Needed Contribution

This book has been needed for a long time. Most of the world thinks of only Japan when they think of fashion design in Asia. Mr. Bullis has tackled the "Forgotten Eight" -- China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Out of the 46 designers featured in this book, I knew of only a few before I saw this book. It is just amazing how different fashion and style can be in this huge slice of geography. Hong Kong designers don't do anything the Taiwanese and Chinese designers do, the Malaysians don't do anything their next-door neighbours the Singaporeans do, and the Indonesians and Filipinos are in a class by themselves. I live in Singapore and even I did not know of some of the designers in my own city that Mr. Bullis found. What I really like is that his book goes into the minds of the designers themselves, not just the work they do. I really feel I know them as people when I read their words, not just names and pictures in a newspaper story. This isn't a typical fashion book at all, it is an art book about people who paint and sculpt and do collage with cloth. Dana De Zoysa danadezoysa@hotmail.com
