Jim Swimmer, a technology-loving Londoner approaching his mid-forties, is dissatisfied with his life. He decides to make some changes,so quits his job and moves into his late parents' house in a small town called Brockford. While trying to come to terms with the loss of his elderly parents, he embarks on a new career as a writer of detective fiction. He also takes some casual work as a taxi driver for an old school friend. However, the residents of Brockford do not seem to understand his work remit and he is repeatedly asked to look into some of the 'minor crimes' that the police do not have the time or resources to investigate. Relationships develop, events escalate and within the space of a few months Jim's life has changed more than he could have imagined.
