Impressive, intelligent, funny, witty, and moving!

Honestly, the only thing that I didn't like was the title. To me, the title didn't really do the book justice. It's a great, realistic story about four black women who want to live "the fabulous life," but do it by working hard and enjoying their time with their friends, as opposed to scheming or marrying rich. What a refreshing change! They all want the same things -- a successful career, good friends, unconditional love and support, and, to be happy in their own skin. Each character is struggling in a different way to find the right balance and perspective. They all have flaws, but wonderfully, they all know it, and they all try, in varying ways, to improve themselves and their lives. Because the writing is so clever and interesting, all of this is clear without ever sounding trite, simplistic, or cheesy. The writing is clear and the plot never slows down. Even better, the plot isn't silly or outlandish. The writing is also VERY witty, and intelligent. (I know I said that already, but I really appreciate cleverness and wit.) It made me laugh out loud several times. I enjoyed all the characters and felt like I really got to know and understand them all. The characters are real and developed. I don't mean to sound so suprised, but even with books where I enjoy the plot, I am disappointed by the character development or the writing. FAB has it all. It's probably the best black "chick lit" that I have ever read. If you are (or you know) an intelligent, fun, professional, independent black woman, read (or tell her to read) FAB.

One of the funniest, best and most real books I ever read

I absolutely LOVED this book. Not only were the characters real, but the story was real as well. No sappy stories with happy endings or dreary stories with sad endings. Just hard hitting, gut busting fun, honesty, and reality. I found the characters to be very interesting and likeable, although I despised the Bianca character. Nevertheless, her character was necessary because it was real -- we all have high post friends with Kool Aid budgets fronting like they have their stuff together. Didn't I tell you the book was real? I read this book in two sittings, starting on the day after I finished Harry Potter, without experiencing any fatigue, except from laughing at loud. I would recommend this book to all professional young women, regardless of race or ethnicity. You'll read the book and see parts of your own life flashing before your eyes.

LOVED IT!

Honestly, I couldn't put it down! I even dragged this hardback book to the gym and read it while on the treadmill! The four women of FAB keep you constantly entertained, while you root them on as they navigate through life. You feel like you're the fifth friend, complete with an Ivy League degree and an incredible sense of humor, arm in arm with them trying to find your place in this world. Witty, charming, sexy... and HILARIOUS. FAB is definitely the perfect summer read. These characters will make you realize that you are not alone with your struggles and with the encouragement and love of your girl friends, life is actually pretty good. Oh, and I've decided that I am approximately 1/3 Bianca, ¼ Carolyn, ¼ Roxanne, and 1/6 Taylor. Not a bad mix :)

One of the funniest and funkiest books around

How many women in their 20s can really say that they are happy with their careers, happy in love (and sex), and can count on one hand the number of friends they can call on at 2 a.m. for relationship counseling? As I was relieved to find out, not many of us. With FAB, this sexy, witty, immensely charming and hilarious book, you will find yourself relating to four extraordinary women on a level you never thought possible! I guarantee you won't be able to put this book down! You will learn to love every inch of yourself and truly appreciate your own relationships with those wonderful, amazing people we like to call girlfriends.

FAB

The title best sums it up. This is one of those novels that you'll be telling all your friends to read, regardless of their age or color. I had received an advanced copy which is now on loan to my mother. She hasn't been able to put it down. FAB is about the kind of women I've come to know who are intelligent, professional, independent, funny,...and crazy. Their ethnicity is not the main focus as you read and enjoy the novel. FAB speaks to any woman trying to make sense of the world and the crappy hand life sometimes deals. You'll want to hang out with these four girls if you don't already know someone like them. The writing is extremely witty and ridiculously funny. Just like the previous reviewer, I found myself grinning like a fool and laughing uncontrollably as I read it on the subway. If you're a fan of not only black urban fiction novels such as The Gotham Diaries and Cosmopolitan Girls, but of the Bridget Jones books or Sex and the City, BUY THIS BOOK. These first-time authors have a major hit in their hands. This would make a great movie. There's no point in lending this book out because you won't get it back. Tell your friends to buy their own copy.
