Wow what a wild ride!

And I never even left the comfort of my couch! Very creative and inventive way to surf the big stuff in Hawaii which most of us will never be able to do... throw out the surfer magazines because this gives a much better experience of actually riding along with the world's best on the most dangerous and exhilarating waves.

Fun!!!! This is a fabulously entertaining take on big wave surfing at one of the world's most renowned spots.....and someplace most of us mere mortals will never have the opportunity to surf. The numerous sceneraios and opportunities to "Experience Pipeline" and the random nature of how your experience plays out is novel and lots of fun. I've done a few "paddle outs" and enjoyed each one.....some ending in success and others in dismal failure. There are over 80 different situtations in which you can involve yourself on a first-person level, and I find myself deep in visualization of the action.....what a great way to daydream about my favorite sport at a level of action and danger unavailable to me in real life. Unlike all the "been there/done that/here's my story" books by others, "Experience Pipeline" lets ME be the big-wave guy.....riding sometimes to glory, sometimes to defeat, but always exciting regardless of the outcome. All in all, a great book every surfer should own and enjoy.

This book is entertaining. The writing is fast and visual.

I don't know who is more entertained by this book my 10 year-old son, or myself (a project manager whose work gets in the way of his surfing). In the book you are the main character, and you are trying to win the Pipe Master's surfing contest in 20-foot waves. The book claims to have 89 different endings. The chapters are just a half-page each. After reading each chapter you flip a coin--heads takes you to one page, tails to another. It reads something like the old "choose your own adventure" books. It takes me about 10 minutes to read through an entire storyline. Each time I have been dealt a new fate. So far I have not managed to win the contest and find it often difficult to set the book down until I've at least made it to the podium. However, you quickly realize that it's extremely difficult to "survive" pipe, much less place in the top 3 of a Pipe Masters contest. It gives you an appreciation, surfer or non-surfer, of this infamous place and those who charge it daily. In my last six reads I have got blocked from the wave of the day by a large sea turtle, got attacked by a shark, got stuffed in a cave after getting pitched over the falls, got called for interference after crashing into an opponent, had an altercation with a hungry eel, and had to defend myself against Hawaiian pride and toughness. Am I giving too much a way? I hope not. This book is entertaining. The writing is fast and visual. I'd recommend this read to surfer's young and old. It's a nice option when the surf isn't happening or for you when you missed a good session and need to visualize the experience of surfing, reality or not!
