Expecting: A Child is Born

Anticipation, excitement, and joy fill the air when one hears they are expecting a child. Grandparents, parents, family, and friends celebrate the hope of someone special. Although every birth is a gift from God, Mary's pregnancy was announced 700 years earlier.Isaiah 7:14 says, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The news is radical. A virgin giving birth is an obvious miracle. Furthermore, we read that the child's name would be "Immanuel" meaning "God with us." This child is the most amazing child ever. He is God!Naming a child is an enjoyable but very meaningful process. Isaiah 9:6 shares some of the names for this beautiful Savior, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
