Esoteric Truth

By Monica R. Sholar

In addition to topnotch detective work, Remilinda Verdad is known around Belle Isle Heights for her love of booze, and men--sometimes even while on the job. When she investigates the attempted murder of Governor Sheila Connor, the case seems open and shut, with the governor's husband on the hook for the crime. After putting him away, a strange warning is left on the detective's windshield, and facts that seemed rock solid before begin to crumble; did she get it all wrong? Reopening the investigation puts her hot on the trail of a city bigwig who looks stunningly guiltier by the day. To right the wrong of an innocent man rotting in prison, she breaks professional code, sending the message that she won't back down until the right person is behind bars. When her street-justice threatens to crack the case wide open, goons with guns show up to send a message right back to her: YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED...
